Player Overview

Jase Richardson is a high-motor, high-IQ guard with an advanced feel for the game and a strong NBA pedigree, as his father is former NBA player Jason Richardson. Jase Richardson plays with great pace, knowing when to attack and when to slow the game down. He thrives as a playmaker and connector, making smart passes and hustle plays that don’t always show up in the box score. His offensive game is well-rounded, with a mixed-shot diet and the ability to score off the dribble.

Despite his strengths, there are areas for growth. He needs to continue adding strength, improve his finishing with both hands and refine his ability to navigate screens. While he is an efficient shooter, consistency from long-range will be key to maximizing his draft stock. If he becomes more assertive offensively and continues developing his three-point shot, Richardson has the tools to be an impactful player at the next level.

"You can’t ignore Richardson’s impact as a true freshman on one of the best teams in the country under Tom Izzo, one of the game's greatest and most demanding coaches. I don’t have him pegged for the 2025 NBA Draft, but he’s firmly on the radar. Regardless, his future is bright." — Matt Babcock, NBA Draft Analyst

Strengths

  • High Motor & Hustle: Competes on every possession, willing to dive for loose balls and make winning plays.

  • Basketball IQ & Feel for the Game: Plays with pace and makes the right reads offensively.

  • Shot Variety: Can score from different spots on the floor, both on and off the dribble.

  • Passing & Playmaking: Connects teammates in rhythm and keeps the offense flowing.

  • NBA Pedigree: Son of former NBA player Jason Richardson, bringing a strong understanding of the game.

Concerns

  • Finishing with Both Hands: He prefers his strong hand (left) and needs to improve ambidexterity around the rim.

  • Low Usage: Currently not a high-volume scorer, making it challenging to evaluate his full scoring potential.

  • Screen Navigation: Needs to get better at working through screens as both a ball-handler and defender.

  • Upper Body Strength: Will need to bulk up to handle physicality at the next level.

  • Three-Point Consistency: While efficient, he must prove he can shoot consistently from deep.

  • Shot Selection: Can be overly unselfish and needs to recognize when to be more aggressive.

Questions

  • Can he develop a reliable right hand when finishing?

  • Will he be able to create elite separation at the next level?

  • Can he continue adding strength to finish through contact?

Bottom Line

Jase Richardson is an energetic, high-IQ guard who makes winning plays on both ends. His ability to play with pace, make smart decisions, and contribute as a secondary playmaker makes him a valuable prospect. To take the next step, he must develop his finishing ability, build strength, and become a more assertive offensive threat. If he continues to improve his three-point shooting and shot creation, Richardson has a strong chance of becoming a reliable NBA guard.
